Medical Massage Treatments
"Deep effortful bodywork is not necessary to achieve profound results"
— Gayle MacDonald, Medicine Hands —
To support the well-being and recovery of our clients after surgery, we offer various treatments in addition to manual lymphatic drainage massage in Houston, Texas. Treatment options are based on the phase of recovery and overall healing. The treatments are designed to help the body recover faster by decreasing swelling, bruising, pain, preventing infection, and increasing energy allowing clients to resume normal activities faster.
I recommend having 1-2 lymphatic massages before your surgery (at least 1 within 72 hrs of your surgery date) to prepare your body for surgery and to aid the recovery process.
*Please note, incisional drainage is out of scope of this practice

Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a technique developed by Emil & Estrid Vodder in the early 1930s. It is a gentle, skin stretching technique, not to be confused with a regular massage. It is intended to encourage the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart. This treatment includes deep diaphragmatic breathing to help open the deep lymphatic pathways.
MLD is beneficial for a host of health challenges: insomnia, stress, anxiety, pre and post-surgery, pregnancy, postnatal care, PTSD, arthritis, palliative care...
No heavy pressure is used with this treatment.
Oncology Massage is a gentle, low-impact massage for people with cancer or a history of cancer. Clients experience significant reductions in pain, fatigue, nausea, depression, and anxiety. Each session is customized based on the client’s diagnosis, physician input, tests results, treatment(s), personal goals, and other factors. Please be prepared to have a detailed discussion with the therapist about your diagnosis and treatment, including approval from your treatment team (esp if lymphatic drainage massage is requested). The information gained will determine how to customize the session to your particular need(s) that day.
The massage is performed by a licensed therapist with specialized training in Oncology Massage in Houston, TX.
